Hallelujah, What a Savior!

This week my siblings and I have been practicing the hymn, “Man of Sorrows, What a Name” for a special on Sunday. It is one we have sung for years and I can pretty much sing the words from memory. Sometimes with hymns that I’m familiar with, it can be easy for my brain to kind of go on autopilot and sing the words without really THINKING about them. The other night as I was thinking about this song and refreshing my mind on the words, I quoted the lyrics in my mind (just the words and not the tune) and when I did that, the truths in this song stood out in such a powerful way!

“Man of sorrows” what a name

For the Son of God, who came

Ruined sinners to reclaim:

Hallelujah, what a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,

In my place condemned He stood,

Sealed my pardon with His blood:

Hallelujah, what a Savior!

Guilty, vile, and helpless, we;

Spotless Lamb of God was He,

Full atonement! Can it be?

Hallelujah, what a Savior!

Lifted up was He to die;

“It is finished” was His cry;

Now in heaven exalted high:

Hallelujah, what a Savior!

When He comes, our glorious King,

All His ransomed home to bring,

Then anew this song we’ll sing:

Hallelujah, what a Savior!

Hallelujah, WHAT a Savior!!

“He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

(Isaiah 53:3-5)

“And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.”

(Mark 16: 5, 6)

I hope you have a blessed Resurrection Day as we reflect on Christ’s sacrifice and rejoice in the fact that we serve a risen Savior!

Sincerely,
