Thankful Thursday – Week 3

It’s the Thanksgiving Thankful Thursday! 🤗🦃 I hope everyone is having a good Thanksgiving week with family, good food, and reflecting on God’s goodness and faithfulness.

As I’ve been working on memorizing Daniel 6:10 this week, I was struck with Daniel’s calm resolve to follow God, no matter the cost, and to trust God with whatever would come. Then I was reading the faith chapter in Hebrews in my daily Bible reading, and it was neat how Daniel was indirectly mentioned as one of the prophets “who through faith…stopped the mouths of lions.” (Hebrews 11:33)

Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth; the heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry land.
Psalm 95:1-5

  1. A few things I am thankful for that I noted last week include:
    1. The opportunity to sit for a section of the CPA exam, and God’s blessing through the prayers of many friends as I tested on Monday.
    2. Fellowship and a delicious meal of Mediterranean pizza shared with a good friend after the exam.
    3. Some restful days before starting to study for another section of the CPA exam.
    4. Birds and the happiness it brings me to watch them. Also the paintings of birds and landscapes in my bedroom that make me smile every day.
    5. The conviction of the Holy Spirit, and the various Scriptures, people, and ways through which He works that conviction.

Daniel 6:10 took me by surprise on your list, as it is somewhat obscure when it comes to thankfulness passages, but I was glad to spend some time working on memorizing it this past Sunday. It reminds me of Philippians 4:6 which tells us to bring our supplications before God with thanksgiving. A heart of thankfulness in prayer often puts petitions in a correct perspective and reminds us of the depth of what we have in the Lord.

  4. Happy day-after Thanksgiving! I hope you all had a very special day, reflecting on our Father’s rich blessings! Some things I was grateful for this past week:
    1. a beautiful book that I’ve been reading, called “Parables of the Cross” by Lilias Trotter; and the book “Christ of the Mount by E. Stanley Jones, and its convicting word regarding the Beatitudes.
    2. our kind mail carrier who does his job thoughtfully and cheerfully. (we ship from home, so mail pickups are a blessing!)
    3. my niece saying “I love you” and giving hugs🤗
    4. I am forgiven, like the servant who owed ten thousand talents in Matthew 18:21-35!! What a merciful Father we serve!!
    5. a beautiful Sunday with family and family in Christ, and the POWERFUL messages on trusting in the Lord, faith and going where He leads (like Abraham, Noah, Hudson Taylor, etc.), and deep humility as Christ demonstrated to us.
    6. my job.😊 I love working with Wolf Valley Forge!

Thank you so much for doing this “challenge” and for all of your joyful encouragement, Amanda!! I hope everyone has a very blessed weekend!

  5. I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving! We had a very special time with family, and there was much to be thankful for this week:

    1. The tremendous blessing and encouragement it was to watch the National Bible Bee last week and see such mature young people who have a love and passion for the Lord and His Word.
    2. A night sky full of stars! There had been several cloudy nights and I missed seeing them. 🤩
    3. Getting to see some former members of the Melody Boys Quartet- our childhood heroes and friends in Southern Gospel music!
    4. The powerful chapter of Nehemiah 9.
    5. Family coming in for Thanksgiving!
    6. My one-year old nephew smiling and calling me “Ra-Ra” every time he saw me. ❤️
    7. Naps!
    8. A FUN game night!
    9. Siblings who like to stay up late talking.
    10. Encouraging music!

I didn’t get to memorize the verses for last week, but I did read them and was encouraged by Daniel’s example in prayer and thanksgiving. I was stuck that his boldness to obey the Lord instead of the king came from the truth in Psalm 95:3, our other memory passage- “For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods.” It didn’t matter that an earthly king had commanded something, because he served someone greater- the King of kings!
