I had the opportunity to hear Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with family and friends this weekend, and it was absolutely unforgettable!! 😍 I experienced a range of emotions throughout last night’s performance – everything from excitement and grinning like a Cheshire cat to being so moved by the angelic voices of the singers that it nearly brought tears to my eyes. It makes me wonder if this is maybe just a teeny tiny taste of what heaven’s music may possibly be like.
(I also was tempted a few times to disregard symphony rules and jump to my feet and applaud at all the wrong moments. 😂)
It was so neat to hear the familiar tune “Ode to Joy” played live and to hear the special vocalists and choirs sing in my mom’s ancestor’s native tongue – German. I was curious as to what the English translation of these words were, and was so moved when I read them! For, in the last verse it talks about where the source of true joy lies – in our Creator God, who is a loving Father. ❤️ The third to last line asks THE most important question:
“World, do you know your Creator?”
.
.
“Oh friends, no more of these sounds!
Let us sing more cheerful songs,
More full of joy!…
Brothers, above the starry canopy
There must dwell a loving Father.
Do you fall in worship, you millions?
World, do you know your Creator?
Seek Him in the heavens!
Above the stars must He dwell.”
-Schiller’s “Ode to Joy”

Thanks to the good-humored doorgreeter, we enjoyed some good laughs on the way home when we discovered that he had photobombed a few of our pictures. 👇🏻🤪😂

Sincerely,

Oh, thank you for sharing this fantastic experience, Amanda! That English translation…what a beautiful and powerful call to worship our Father in Heaven!
