In Everything Give Thanks Challenge

Thankful Thursday – Week 2

It’s the second Thankful Thursday post for the In Everything Give Thanks Challenge! I hope everyone has had a good week of counting your many blessings, naming them one by one. 😊

For those of you doing the memorization challenge – how is that going? I love the reminder in the 1 Chronicles 29 passage that ALL THINGS come from God, and also the great humbleness of David here -the giant slayer, hero and king of Israel, in that he says, “But who am I…that [I] should be able to offer so willingly as this?” 🧑

Here are my highlights from week 2, and I look forward to reading yours!

This week I was thankful for…

  1. Having the words of God in written form.
  2. My family ❀️
  3. The elderly people I clean for, who have become like second sets of grandparents.
  4. The Lord’s protection during a bad storm.
  5. Getting to see my sister-in-law and niece, and hold my nephew! πŸ₯°
  6. Essential oils and hot tea for my sinuses and sore throat.
  7. My parents sheltering me from the evil in the world during my childhood, and laying a strong foundation of living by God’s Word.
  8. A sibling walk.
  9. The Lord being my Shepherd.
  10. God keeping my brother safe in a minor car accident.
  11. The privilege to vote. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  12. Living in a country that was founded on Biblical principles.
  13. My family’s traditional election night watch-party, complete with brownies! πŸ˜‹
  14. That the issue of making recreational marijuana legal in our state did not pass! An answer to prayer! πŸ™ŒπŸ»
  15. Technology that allows us to watch The National Bible Bee Competition live.
  16. A little piece of truth that I heard someone share: Ruth’s redemption led to our redemption. ❀️

  2. Aww, I love all of your “thankfuls”, Amanda! β™₯️
I must confess, I have been forgetting to do the Scripture memorizing… so something I’m thankful for on this Thankful Thursday is that one of the passages is one I already have memorized, haha! πŸ™ˆ

    Highlights from the past week:
    1. Naps XD
    2. Halloween being OVER!
    3. My 1yo niece is so interactive!
    4. Telling friends/family about things that interest or excite me
    5. Picking up on subtleties in fictional character development
    6. My sister drawing smiley faces in my notebooks if I leave them lying open πŸ™ƒ
    7. Made it to a benchmark progress point on my big tedious project
    8. “Gratitude” by Brandon Lake
    9. “Sing It” by Josh Wilson
    10. God is Enough to use me anyway
    11. Fun playtime with my 1yo nephew and a floor-length mirror
    12. All the pretty Fall decor that my mama and sister have been putting out around the house πŸ‚ πŸƒ
    13. Getting my desk cleaned off
    14. Bright sunshine! β˜€οΈ
    15. Peanut Butter smelled/tasted almost normal for the first time in 10-ish months! (post-Covid symptoms that began last Christmas – how I’ve missed Peanut Butter!)

Also…I’m thankful that we get to be thankful for silly, “unimportant”, unimpressive things, that make us happy anyway. Because God loves to bless us, and I think He’s just as happy when we’re grateful for silly, temporary things as He is when we’re grateful for the big stuff. 🧑

    1. I absolutely agree with you that God is very happy to see us thankful for the “unimportant” things.
#15 YES! I am crazy about peanut butter! but sadly I have been intolerant to it for a couple of years. It is definitely something to be thankful for! πŸ™‚

    2. Love your point, Lorraine, about being grateful even for the little, silly things!!😁 Yes, YES to #2!!! Awwwww, and I love 3 + 11!!!!! I have a 16 month old niece, so those are special to me!!πŸ€— How much FUN it must be to have both a niece AND a nephew 1yo!!πŸ’—πŸ’™

      1. Thank you!! Yes, they are twins (the first time we’ve had twins in our immediate family, although we have twin cousins), so it is extra fun! πŸ’πŸ’™

  3. Your nephew’s smile is so sweet! I can definitely see the Silvey side in his features.

I have been working on memorizing. Yes, that scripture in 1 Chronicles is really neat! what stands out to me is the thought of thankfulness and realizing that all I have from God and all that I’ll ever give him came from His hand in the first place. Joleen is currently reading a book she has called β€œJill’s Red Bag” and it’s about tithing. That got us in a conversation about how tithing cultivates thankfulness to the Lord and that it is something good for us.

    Thankfuls:

    1. For a brother being willing to hear my troubles when I was having a bad day.

    2.For a long-awaited for rain shower.

    3. For getting to see God answering a prayer.

    4. For the friends I have.

    5. For a particular difficult season in my life from the past that God blessed me in.

    6. For some really beautiful clear full moonlit nights.

    7. The privilege to vote.

    8. That I got to go to Fort Loudon with my younger brothers and help shoot a scene for our movie project.

    9. Being able to go to bed and get up early.

    10. The color PINK on my pretty quilt!

    11. I’m thankful for the joy I’ve received through my mom’s wise counsel.

    12. For the 2 boxes of apples that Mr. and Mrs. H. gave my brothers.

    13. That a particular batch of our ducks have started producing eggs now that we realized they needed calcium.

    14. I’m thankful that God has ordained me that I should go and bring forth fruit and that my fruit should remain. (John 15)

    15. That God will teach me in the way that I should go…that He will guide me with his eye. (Ps 32:8)

16.For the illustration God gave us in how bunnies function. Rabbits can die of fright. But if you put a box in their cage they will hide in there and feel perfectly safe because of it. I once saw a dog staring at a cage of our bunnies. They were all calmly huddled in their box. β€œThe Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runneth into it and is safe.”

    1. Yes, that was the first time he’s given us a big smile and it was the sweetest! πŸ₯°
That is a good point about how tithing cultivates gratitude.
Love your #1, 3, and 11! πŸ’— Does #8 mean that another Waltman Family Production will be coming out soon? πŸ˜ƒ #16 was such a neat illustration! I think it is so neat when God gives us things like that that picture our relationship with Him! πŸ’•

      1. Yes, we are planning our next episode of “Ranger Morris.” We think it’s going to be the best yet. However I don’t know how soon we’ll get it done.

    2. I love so much if your list, Colleen!!πŸ™ŒπŸ»β€ And 5, 14, 15, and 16 are especially so beautiful!! Our God is so good and so faithful to us! I’m so thankful that He’s so personal with us!! That even though we’re just TINY compared to Him – so frail and helpless – He pays such special attention to every detail of our lives!πŸ’• #5 reminds me of a season I was in, and a verse that spoke so true out of that season was “He makes all things beautiful in His time.”πŸ’— Amen!

  4. It’s been a tough week here dealing with sickness, but even in the midst of that there were still things to be thankful for, and I am so grateful for that! πŸ™‚ Here are some highlights from the week:

    1. Beautiful weather- a blue sky with white fluffy clouds, wind, and not-too-warm temps. πŸ™‚
    2. Encouraging blogs.

    4. The thread being on sale at Hobby Lobby!
    5. The spiritual rest we have in Christ- Hebrews 4:10
    6. Hymns that refresh my soul and renew my focus on God.
    7. Making fun/crazy memories with the siblings by reliving our childhood and watching Veggie Tales. Hey, we were sick and needed some entertainment/laughs!
    8. That my sore throat wasn't any worse than it was.
    9. Hot tea and essential oils.
    10. Getting to vote…

    1. So glad to hear your digestion is improving and that you’ve been able to move into stage 3 of the GAPS diet!
      #3 Aww…so sweet.

#7 Haha! Sometimes we sing those silly songs from veggie tales for fun. Some of the songs we’ve sung are: “I love my cheeseburger”, “I am so blue,” and “O Where is my hairbrush” We didn’t watch veggie tales a lot while growing up.
A series we re-visited recently is “Davey and Goliath” We really enjoy those, though more for sentimental value than for laughs.
Patch the Pirate is one I still enjoy going back and listening to sometimes. But my brothers get annoyed with it.

      1. Thank you, Colleen!

Haha! We sing those Veggie Tales songs randomly, too. πŸ˜€
Ooh, we LOVED listening to Patch the Pirate when we were younger. So many good memories! Do you have a favorite?

        Like

        1. I’m not sure since most of them we only have on tape and it’s hard to come by a tape player. I vaguely remember really liking one with prairie dogs in it, I think that was called Patch the Pirate goes west. Then there’s also banana man in the jungle audios and Big Bad Toe in the Misterslippi River Race. I would like to hear the Down Under one again. I think “Lazy Bones” from the Mount Zion Marathon is really funny. So many funny songs! And I really love the non-funny songs too. With all that said, from the ones I remember I think my favorites are Kidnapped on I-land(that was kind of a twist off the story of Paul and Silas) or Limerick the Leprechaun. But then again there’s The Giant Killer too! I tend to prefer the older ones.

          What about you?

          1. Patch the Pirate Goes West is the first one I ever listened to! I had to look up the list online to remember which ones we’ve listened to, and there were a lot that we hadn’t listened to. I think we got a few of them for Christmas one year, but we never got anymore. My favorites were Kung Phooey Kid and The Legend of Stickyfoot. πŸ˜€ Another favorite was a song cd called Possum Pot Pie… it had songs from all the different Patch the Pirate’s. We still sing those songs to this day!! Possum Pot Pie, Camp Food, Chocolate Fever, Down the Misterslippi, Skin, Banana Man, Ballard of Big Toe, Wiggle Worm, Remember Your Manners… lol!

            1. I don’t think I’ve listened to Kung phooey kid or the legend of Stickyfoot.

Yup, I’m familiar with those songs, though I don’t know if I could say all the words through. Oh, do y’all sing “The Poochie Lip disease?”
Sometimes we sing that to antagonize someone who’s being grumpy…but we try not to do that anymore since it doesn’t quite accomplish making them happy again! πŸ™‚ LOL

  5. I have enjoyed the challenge of memorizing the verses. They have helped me to have a focus on being thankful. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 has been an encouragement when I didn’t feel like being thankful as it says β€œin everything give thanks”.

Here are a few of my thankfuls from the past week:

    1. Getting to spend some time with my daughter-in-law and grandkids.

    2. Morning walks in the warmth of the sun.

    3. Listening to election night results together as a family.

    4. That God’s mercies are new every day!

    5. A new bloom on my Gerbera plant.🌸

-random acts of kindness, like one from our UPS driver this week.
-my parents on their anniversary! For their example of commitment, love and adoration for each other; ALL the love + selflessness they’ve poured into my life, and God’s faithfulness to them these past 36 years!!
-a FUN random surprise when my brother + sister-in-law and 1-year-old niece showed up with a strawberry smoothie for me and my oldest brother while we were mowing and bushhogging! What a fun, special, and refreshing treat to all share a little smoothie picnic together!
-the peace of God which surpasses ALL understanding, and which guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus!β™₯

  7. Y’all’s new nephew is super cute! I am so happy about how God protected the people in your state from further damage by not allowing the legalization of marijuana to pass!

I enjoyed reading the things all of y’all are thankful for!
    Some of mine are:
    -Apples
-Some encouragement from Mom (with a problem that’s been a frustration) and her tenderheartedness to God that I saw
-helping me to get up (and especially to stay awake) earlier this week, Yay! πŸ™‚
-Jesus’ gentleness and lowliness of heart (and that He wants to/is teaching me to live in that same way)
-getting to lead a quiet life
-getting our governor again who has been working to pass righteous laws
-That God teaches us to be full of a hope that is unshakeable because of trust in Him…in light of His past character.

  8. I have not been able to keep up with the Scripture challenge with being sick this week, but plan to catch up next week. Thanks for the reminder! πŸ™‚
Some of the things I’m thankful for this week are…
    1. God’s leading and guidance every day
    2. Beautiful day/night skies
    3. Fruit tea
    4. Special letters/emails/texts from friends
    5. Being able to sleep ALL night the first time during this sickness!!
    6. The veterans who have willingly served their country and made untold sacrifices to keep our nation free. Let us never miss the opportunity, especially today, to thank a veteran. “Through untold courage and sacrifice America’s veterans have secured the liberty which the founding fathers sought to establish here in the new world.”
