We are in WEEK 3 of the In Everything Give Thanks Challenge! I can’t believe that we are already halfway through the challenge! I have been so blessed by this practice of recording things I’m thankful to the Lord for each day, and it’s been neat to see what you all are finding to be thankful for! 🤗
My thankful list is a bit longer this week, because it was really hard to narrow it down. There were just so many that I didn’t want to leave out! 😊
- Getting a small sewing project done.
- A surprise Gerbera daisy! 🌸
- Encouraging podcasts
- All of our veterans, and their willingness to lay down their lives, if need be, to protect our freedoms. In the words of an older veteran friend who passed away recently, he: “went to fight, so his young nephews wouldn’t have to.” 🇺🇸❤️
- That the Lord is God, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)
- Family movie nights + a fun new (to us), old mystery movie. 🕵🏻♂️
- Getting a cleaning job back with some dear, older people. 🥰
- My brother getting his first deer of the season!
- Eating some of said deer a few days later. 😋
- The ability to praise the Lord through music. 🎶
- A fun game of dominos with one of my sisters and a friend.
- The reminder in Hebrews 12 to pursue holiness (also, 1 Peter 1:16 where the apostle quotes what God says in the Old Testament: “Be holy, for I am holy.”)
- The neat parallel that I saw in the memory passages for this week (that I did not realize was there until this week!): In the Colossians 3:17 passage, I noticed a truth there – that it is through Jesus’ work of salvation that we can give thanks to God the Father, or even talk and have access to Him at all….then, in Psalm 107, the psalmist is giving thanks and says, “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.” 😀
- A visit from my brother and his little family. 💕
- My niece making us all laugh with her funny little ways. 😅
- A praise report from a friend!
- Memories I have of my dear, great Uncle Von, whose birthday would have been this week. He loved us kids and would play with us for hours, even though we probably wore him out. From the stories my great aunt has told me, he was a quiet gentleman who loved the Lord, and loved his family. ❤️
- Progress on our house remodel!
- A successful mom + sister clothes thrifting trip!
- Getting to run in to my favorite health food store and pick up a few items.

8. Is 55
9. For our wood stove.
10. A fun time Joleen and I had singing in the kitchen.

I like your thankful list, Amanda! It’s encouraging and sweet to hear about your uncle Von. Was he from the side of the family that came over from Germany? I think I got it right that some of your family came over from Germany.
I saw something I hadn’t noticed before in one of the memory assignments Eph 5:18-21
Part of being filled with the spirit is not only giving thanks and singing to the Lord, but also submitting myself to other Christians in the fear of God.

No, Uncle Von was my dad’s uncle. Mom’s family has the German ancestry. But Uncle Von has a neat story in that he was an orphan and was adopted by a couple by the name of DeCordova. Uncle Von’s last name was Bristow, but he took the DeCordovas’ name. He wasn’t super close to them, and after he married my aunt Jackie and joined our family, he told her that this was the first real family that he had been a part of. 😊
That is neat what you noticed in the Ephesians passage.

That’s neat about the half off health food place! Our health food store has a small sale rack where we can sometimes find good deals.
#5 is encouraging! ❤️ And #10 does sound like fun! 😊

Here are some things I’m thankful for this week:
-good rain and lots of it!
-trees; how God showed His wisdom in making such large, heavy things that stand, not fall over! He upholds them.
-warm blankets/clothing
-how God turns the schemes of the wicked to accomplish instead that He is glorified…like He did with Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego!
-heat in house for cold weather
-a new niece I heard about
-putting me in my family
-for beautiful melodies in music
-for Brandon and Colly helping me get the sink drain unclogged
It is hard for me to narrow them down this week as well!

You did a better job than I did of narrowing your list down! 😁 Your thankful about the trees is neat, and is a thought I hadn’t really pondered. Thanks for sharing that! 🙂 Congratulations on your new niece! 🥰 So glad you were able to get the sink unclogged; those aren’t fun to deal with, especially when the dishes start piling up.

There was another one about a super nice lunch Colleen made for us to take when we went to work at Benjamin’s place on Thurs. that I wanted to add–She was staying home that day, we were out of bread so she decided to make us a warm bean/meat dip with corn chips. It was a cold day, and was the best lunch we ever had over there! I loved making her smile when I got home and told her that. 🙂 Our house drainage system is very prone to get clogged up and is somewhat of a nightmare for the boys since they’re often having to go under the house to deal with it. Any extra grease down the sink can make them have to take a trip under there, so we try to be careful. The tree thankful is a special one to me since at a time of heightened uncertainty about the future I looked out and saw the trees, and God reminded me of His wisdom and power in my situation. Just like He upholds the trees by His wise design and His power, He is powerful enough to move in my life and accomplish His will in a situation that I am laying on Him, and I can be at peace with that.

Yes, Joby, that is really encouraging what happened to Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego.

It might have been harder to pare down my list, but it seems difficult to make a lot of them translate well without their context! 😄
Highlights from my thankful list:
1. We got more rain!
2. Looking back through past times in my life and seeing common themes already present in my personality
3. Quadruple Solitaire with my brother, his wife, and our dad
4. My [other] brother being very gracious and unflappable in a very frustrating situation
5. Getting complicated decisions made
6. Asking for/receiving the tech support I needed for my Long Tedious Project (henceforth known as my LTP! 😅)
7. Friends who speak the truth with boldness 💛
8. Seeing God’s hand in orchestrating unlikely divine appointments
9. Got to see a friend from ACC!
10. Got my coat button sewn back on 😊
11. A really good Bible study tonight
I love all of your thankfuls! And love the pictures too!
Those Scripture parallels are so neat! They made me think of another one: your point about Colossians 3:17 saying that “…it is through Jesus’ work of salvation that we can give thanks to God the Father, or even talk and have access to Him at all…” and the 1 Chronicles 29 passage saying, “For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given You.” 💛
Thank you again for hosting this challenge, Amanda! It’s been a much-needed push for me to focus on gratitude to the Lord for what He has given, rather than on negativity or disappointment over what He hasn’t.

Grace had one of those “hard to translate” ones last night. I gave her my translation of it, and she said, “Ha! So simple!” 😄
Love #6 and your acronym! 😁
#8!! ❤️❤️❤️
Ah, yes! I love that parallel and phrase in 1 Chron. 29!
You’re welcome! I’m just so thankful for everyone who has joined me in doing the challenge, because it would not be nearly as fun to do it all by myself. 😊

Here is my thanksgiving list for this week:
I am thankful for:
1. Jacob getting his first deer of the season and God’s provision for us in that.
2. A house full of love and laughter!
3. Everyone being well again after a whole week of sickness.
4. Our fellowship meals we have at church every Sunday.
5. Hymns that present solid biblical truths.
6. A visit from my son and his family.
7. Good finds during our thrift store shopping trip.
8. And this Thanksgiving Challenge, because it has pushed me to think about being thankful and not always just focusing on the negative things in life, being able to do what Psalm 92 says, “To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night.”
