In Everything Give Thanks Challenge

Thankful Thursday – Week 5 + Giveaway πŸŽ‰

It is here – the final Thankful Thursday post. 😌 I’m a little saddened at coming to the end of this challenge, but so grateful for all the wonderful things I was able to give thanks for, and for seeing all the things you guys were thankful for!

I’m hoping that this challenge won’t end here, but that it will remind us to continue to carry a heart of thanksgiving into the Christmas season and the new year!

My thankful highlights from this past week:

  1. Being able to enjoy a soft food version of Thanksgiving dinner.
  2. A family time to remember and talk about the things we were thankful for this year.
  3. Visiting with a dear friend and her daughter.
  4. My brother shooting another deer!
  5. A cozy Saturday at home with family.
  6. Email.
  7. That β€œthe name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Prov. 18:10)
  8. Thanksgiving hymns
  9. Getting to eat solid food again!
  10. Putting up Christmas decorations with my sisters. ❀️✨
  11. Irish and Scottish Christmas music
  12. That we can pray to God anywhere, and He hears us.
  13. The cute puppies at the house that I clean 🐢
  14. Little things that I took for granted before my wisdom teeth removal – like being able to chew and smile without face hurting. πŸ™ƒ
  15. A sweet gift of some pink flowers from an elderly friend. πŸ’•
  16. A really good Christmas music practice! 🎢🎻

Who all completed the Scripture Memorization Plan? I got a little behind with recovering from my dental work, and I am still working on the last two verses. I think the verses in Psalm 92:1-2 are a good reminder to end this challenge on:

β€œIt is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night.”

  2. This year has seemed to go by faster than last! It’s been good to stop and spend extra time giving thanks to God for all He has given us! All things come from Him, as it says in 1Chronicles 29:14, “…For all things come from You, and of your own we have given You.”

Oh, and I have yet to complete the scripture memorization.😬
    I didn’t really need a journal anyways…πŸ˜‰πŸ˜†

(It was SO hard to choose just three!!!)

  9. I like your thankfuls, Amanda! Ps 92:1-2 is my favorite out of the memorization plan. I think I memorized them good except for the references. It’s harder for me to remember references ‘caus I’m not good with numbers.

    1. getting to sing and play catch phrase with our guests at Thanksgiving.
    2. Getting to see my brother Byron
    3. A scripture challenge my family and I are doing.
    4. God’s kindness in ruling over His creatures. Though he is the most high and could do whatever he wants, he is very gentle, kind, protective and generous to us. He is NOT a tyrant, but our firm and kind king.
    5. My brother’s kind gift in appreciation for helping on his house.
    6. For good reminders to do what is right.

  10. Thank you, Amanda, for doing this thanksgiving challenge!

I have written down 5 thankfuls for every day this month, a couple times catching up the next day. I have also memorized the verses, except for the references, and I forgot a phrase from one of them when quoting them today, so I didn’t remember it perfectly!

    My highlights for this week:
-Byron’s visit on Saturday, the encouragement that was to me/us and to Byron as well
-the purity and weightiness that the Lord put into Keith Daniel by His Word burning in His heart and comes out in his preaching; for the blessing that man of God has been to me + left me more set that I will go after Jesus fully and soak myself in The Word every day as my most important priority, this was encouraged through his influence (he did that and was blessed by God)
-the thanksgiving challenge this month and the push it has given me to develop a habit of consciously thinking to remember what I’m thankful for every day +blessing Amanda has been to me
    -music w/Colly
    – Benjamins oft repeated requests to sing together
-the notice about inactivity of a bank account of mine before the government took the money (I was able to get the money, and didn’t remember that I had it)

    3 Highlights from this Month:
-getting our governor again who has been working to pass righteous laws
-siblings that I see every day and that want more of God and approve excellent things
-The Lord filling me with His Spirit

    1. I’m not sure that I’ve ever heard any of Keith Daniel’s sermons…soooo thankful for the encouragement you received, Joleen!! It’s so AMAZING how God uses different people to speak to our hearts at the very moment we need it!β™₯

      Like

      1. Yes, I do appreciate how God knows the need/struggle of our heart and how to speak to us in a way that we will understand: giving a Scripture that just fits, or using a person to express the thing at just the right time, or putting a truthful word or thought in our hearts, through any number of ways, He knows how to help us! He is the one who comes alongside to help/comfort us, and I’m glad for that, we couldn’t walk with Him otherwise!

Keith Daniel has been a strong encouragement to me to follow hard after God, and seeing him and his wife’s interactions made his words hold more weight for me, because he and she are “true-blue,” it’s not just “talk the talk” in their lives. I would go so far as to say that he is one of the godliest people I have ever met. God spoke to him early on in life about memorizing and internalizing Scripture until it was burned on his heart, and when many of the other students at the Bible School where he went were enjoying themselves with various things, he was giving himself to the Word and to prayer. Many of His messages were wholly or almost wholly him quoting Scripture, but spoken with a power that would be impossible to explain except that the Word he spoke was alive and living in him. Sermonindex.com has many audio sermons of his, and youtube also has sermons of his. His wife, Jenny Daniel sometimes speaks poems and encouragement to ladies, especially now after his death (he died almost 2 years ago). You’ll notice their pronunciation of words is different than Americans, since they lived in South Africa.

I don’t mean to be overly long, but this is something that gets me excited!

  11. Hi!!!! I did not start this challenge soon enough (#only just started) lol, so unfortunately I did not write out five thankfuls every day.

But I can still share some things that I am thankful for.
    1. That God has given me the ability to learn new skills by experimenting with various projects. Note: A couple of months ago I got interested in auto mechanics. I asked God to give me an opportunity to do some work (not for money, just to learn). One day when Bryce and I got back from working at my house, I thought I would check why our 2003 Kia Sedona was making so much noise. I quickly found out that the rear shocks needed replaced. After doing some research, Dad and I came to the conclusion that the shocks and struts were bad on both our Kia Sedona and our Dodge Grand Caravan. When we got into the job/s we found out that there were more things that needed replaced. Anyway, though I am not glad that Dad has to spend money on car parts, I am glad that I have been given the opportunity to learn. Though it cost Dad some money for the parts, having Bryce and I do the work rather than a mechanic saved him a lot of money.
    2. For God’s creation, and that He made everything beautiful. God’s creation gives us a good picture of how joyful He is. When I look at a butterfly, or a flower or the sun setting, I think, God could have made these more bland and melancholy but he wanted to make them pretty. I think this is because God is happy and He wants to make us happy too.
    3. For awesome siblings who bring a lot of joy to me. I also appreciate that they have the ability to correct me in a loving way when I am not behaving as I ought.
    4. For the birth of Christ, without which we would all be doomed. Also for Christmas (the holiday) which is my favorite time of the year.
    5. I am very thankful that God has given me the ability to work in spite of my back problems. (explanation, in fast mode: when I was around 13 I was riding on a four-wheeler with my brother-in-law when the four-wheeler flipped over on top of us. Good thing my brother-in-law kept the four-wheeler from trapping us, but when I fell, I landed on a piece of plastic and I hit my head on a rock. If I did not have a helmet on it could have been worse. after a couple of days I noticed that my back still hurt. We went to a chiropractor and had an x-ray done this revealed a twisted vertebra. At a later time, after doing some hard work on trees, my back hurt so bad I could not get out of bed. My boss/college teacher, who had previously been educated in spinal and head injuries said I could never do manual labor again. But this is not true thanks to God helping me.)

Thank you Amanda for letting me comment on your blog πŸ™‚

      1. Hi Amanda, I enjoyed participating in this challenge (as much as I did), if you do it again next year I would like to participate from the beginning. Thanking the Lord has helped me a lot through the years. There was one occasion especially that I was really struggling with depression, then it was impressed on me to start giving thanks to God anytime I felt depressing thoughts creeping in. I would sit down with a note book and write down all the things I was thankful for. This would always, without exception, throw me from depression into joy. This was years ago and I have not struggled with depression like that again. Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you and thank you again for hosting this Giving Thanks challenge.
