Thankful Thursday – Week 2

I hope everyone has had a blessed two weeks of the challenge so far! As I was looking over my list just now to pick out my highlights from the past week, I was overcome with thankfulness to the Lord for how good He is to us each and every day. “Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.” (Psalm 34:3) This past week I was thankful to the Lord for:

  1. My dear friend, Ms. Pat
  2. My little car, and that it has been pretty dependable and had very little issues.
  3. My piano student, who is talented and a joy to teach. 😊🎹
  4. My amazing, wise, godly parents. ❤️
  5. Sunshine after a rainy morning. 🤗☀️
  6. Hugs from a sweet little friend.
  7. God sending me Scriptures right when I needed them.
  8. All of our veterans who have served our country. 🇺🇸
  9. A sweet group of old people we’ve sang to for the past 9 years.
  10. My sister who has fixed my dinner for me twice this week! 💗 Thanks, Sarah! 😁
  11. My precious friend, Ms. Barbara
  12. Going to see a cute and moving Christmas movie, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
  13. Music in the car. 🎶🚙
  14. A beautiful sunset. 🌅

How is everyone doing with the Scripture memorization? I didn’t get this week’s verses quite memorized, but I was able to write them down almost every day. I’m going to try to get them solidified in my mind this week, and work on the new ones. 🙂

I love this verse from Hebrews and the picture the writer gives us in this chapter how Jesus fulfilled and did away with the Old Testament sacrifices, and the sacrifice that God desires from us now is – the praise of our lips, the giving of thanks to His name.

“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”

Hebrews 13:15

  3. I have so many blessings I could list out from this last week! Each has been so special and unexpected, giving me more joy then I could ever have imagined them bringing and each seems to have been multiplied into more. I have tried to guess what goodness would be in the next day and I found it was better then this simple mind could have comprehended. Such a loving Savior we have to know each day! 🙂

For a call with kind Joleen were we could speak freely of Faith, and fellowship deeply. For dirty dishes that pile up high for me to wash and make beautiful again as I think and pray and sing the songs from my heart. For a sweet confidant in Colleen who I may know to tell all my joys. For him who’s offer of courtship has made every day sweeter. For my small winter garden that gives me simple pleasure. And for the long happy talks with my Savior each night till I fall asleep, still in His presence. For all these and more, I thank Thee. Such blessings have been in this week that I could fill a book with it’s pleasant memories! 🙂 I am blessed beyond measure and it almost seems that life could not be sweeter then now. I have not known such joys that even the thorns can not hide the great clusters of roses.

    1. I understand your P.S. for I have had trouble publishing my comments as well. A tip I figured out is that if the comment is too long and has a lot of lines then it doesn’t tend to post, but if I shorten it, then it will post. 🙂

      I like your thankfuls! 🙂

        1. Found the problem!! All of those missing messages were in my spam box. I’m so sorry! I’m not seeing a way to access the spam folder on my phone, and that is where I do most of my commenting, but I will be checking my spam folder each week now! 🙂

  4. Week 2!🎉😊 Here are some of my thankfuls:

*The power we have in Christ to overcome the world just as He did! “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

*Our veterans whom we owe so much to🇺🇸❤️

    *Sunshine after some rainy days

    *Truths in James 5

*The opportunity we had this week to perform a concert and glorify the Lord through song

*A friend surprising me at said concert!

*The opportunity to play some rounds of pool🎱

    *First-time movie theatre experience!

*The hope we have in Christ “Set your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

    *Potato soup with bacon&cheese😋

*A heavenly Father who hears the prayers/cries of His children and who can sympathize in our weaknesses

The Scripture memorization has been going really well for me. I enjoy writing the verses down each day and having them in my memory to quote to myself during the day. God’s word is so powerful!🤍

  5. A few of things I am thankful for from the past week are:

    1. The inheritance I have in Christ. I spent some time preparing for a Bible lesson on Psalm 16, and that stood out to me from the passage.
    2. The beauty and power of nature, and the ability to see that every day.
    3. Watching a young cedar tree grow, and catching frogs for closer inspection at the pond.
    4. The friends I made at college and how those friendships have remained over time.
    5. Strong Christian friends to talk about life, theology, and politics with.

I am not participating in the memory challenge, but I am encouraged that I have made improvements from last year in jotting down things each day I am thankful for. I’m thankful God gives us time to learn and grow from the past as we go through life.

  6. Among many things, this week I was thankful for…

    2. A friend’s very timely encouragement. ❤️
    3. My salvation in Christ Jesus!
    4. Fellowship with other believers at church.
    5. This quote from the book I am currently reading, Hinds Feet on High Places- “In the life of a child of God there are no second causes; even the most unjust and cruel things, as well as all seemingly pointless and undeserved sufferings, have been permitted by God as a glorious opportunity for us to react to them in such a way that our Lord and Savior is able to produce in us, little by little, His own lovely character.”
    6. Dirty dishes- because that means we have food to eat!
    7. A day spent with my family.
    8. Southern Gospel music. 🤗
    9. The front porch at my Pap and Nana’s house that provides a quiet place to read, study, pray, think, or just look at God’s beautiful creation.

    11. A sweet visit with Pap this afternoon… I am blessed every day by his positive attitude and humor!

    1. I remember Hinds Feet being a lovely poetic book. Much Afraid is a very relatable character and I love the good shepherd 🙂 I think I really liked how the book quoted song of Solomon a lot, for many of those scriptures are so lovely and Holy, both in application to the Lord and his bride in application in marriage.

I believe there is a sequel(?) called The Mountains of Spices(?). I don’t remember if I read it though.

      1. I made a typo: I meant that song of Solomon is beautiful allegorically about Jesus and His bride, and beautiful Physically/literally about marriage.

  7. Here are some highlights from this past week’s blessings:

    1. Encouraging conversation with a friend.
    2. The sound of birds chirping in the morning. 🐦
    3. A phone call from my son who has been away all week hunting in Kansas. 📞
    4. My girls always pitching in to help make dinner happen each night.
    5. That we can come boldly to God’s throne for help.

”Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of Grace, that we may find grace to help in time of need.”
    Hebrews 4:16

I am enjoying memorizing the verses each week. This week’s verses were a little more challenging than last week.🙂

One of my daughters gave me some good advice this week: When thinking of things to be thankful for and you think of something negative, think of one positive thing about that negative thing.

-I’m thankful God loved us first. We love because He first loved us!

-I’m thankful He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world.

    Ephesians 1:3-14

    Spiritual Blessings in Christ

[3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, [4] even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love [5] he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, [6] to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. [7] In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, [8] which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight [9] making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ [10] as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

[11] In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, [12] so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. [13] In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, [14] who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

  14. Week 2 Thankfuls:

    • That He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love (Colossians 1:13-14)! This is powerful!
    • my dear Daddy and Mommy celebrating their 38th anniversary! I’m so thankful for their example and faithful commitment!

    • that He knows EXACTLY what others (or we) are going through and can meet us right where we are! That He hears silent prayers and knows the depths of hearts and struggles. Isn’t this amazing? Praise God!
