Thankful Thursday – Week 2

At church on Sunday I played the hymn “Count Your Blessings”, and I’ve been thinking of the words to that beloved hymn as I’ve been putting this post together…

“When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.”

Here are some of my “blessings” from Week 2 😊:

  1. Phone calls with long-distance friends ❤️📞
  2. Sunshine ☀️
  3. My pap’s sense of humor that he still has, even with his Alzheimers.
  4. Beautiful fall colors 🍁
  5. Laughter
  6. A dear friend joining our church
  7. That Jesus turns our “sorrow to joy” (Esther 9:22) and our “mourning into dancing” (Psalm 30:11)
  8. An encouraging nudge from a friend to finish my book that I started writing years ago.
  9. God’s Word, and specifically my copy that I’ve had and read for the past 14 years. The Lord has shown Himself to me in very precious ways on those pages. 📖
  10. God’s wonderful creation of WORDS that allows us to communicate with each other and record important information and what we think or feel.

(I’m also thankful for this blog that the Lord prompted me to start years ago. Fun fact: this is my 100th post! 🥳)

    6. A Heavenly Father who hears us when we pray.

  8. Hello everyone! It’s so much fun to read your thankfuls and what the Lord is doing in your life — in the big things and in the simple joys of life. Thank you so much for each post, Amanda, and congratulations on 100 posts!!!🎉

    For my week 2 (looking back over my journal, and catching up on my posting), here are some highlights, though there were so many things🤗 —

    I’m thankful for:
    -Hot tea, warm blankets, and cozy things for this season!
    -My little niece bringing me a beautiful, fragrant yellow rose!💛 It was soooo precious. She was in her car seat with the window rolled down, calling for me, and hanging my rose out the window (with some oversized Dewalt sunglasses on, I might add).
    -My parents! For their faithful commitment for 39 years!!! (celebrating their anniversary during week 2); the way they have trained their children in the training and admonition of the LORD; their friendships; their encouraging support of their children; and on and on!
    -A wonderful Sunday meeting and reminders to seek and serve the Lord with fervor and commitment!
    -My family and the strong bond that we have. Oh it is SUCH a blessing!♥
    -The two ukuleles that a dear friend gave to me! They were her late parents’ ukuleles.♥
    -The whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:11), by which we may stand against the wiles of the enemy! Christ is our victory!
    -The Northern Lights and getting to see their beauty, God’s awesome handiwork on display!
    -A new subscriber to my email magazine!
    -Some powerful verses in Revelations 5 and the throne scene of PRAISE that we get a glimpse of. Verse 8 of chapter 4 also stood out to me as the creatures “do not rest day or night” saying “Holy, holy holy…” So when we sing this hymn, we are joining a song of heaven!♥

    “You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:9-10

    “And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!” Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.” Revelation 5:13-14
